Folk Dance Fridays with the Old World Dance Club

5th Annual Folk Dance Camp

and farewell to High/Scope

with

Demetri Tashie

teaching dances from Greece

at High/Scope Conference Center near Clinton, MI, SW of Ann Arbor
May 1-3, 2009 - this is the last High/Scope camp

Demetri Tashie is a relatively new face on the international folk dance scene, and has extensive experience in Greek music and dance. He has a broad knowledge of regional Greek dance, specializing in village dances, and has taught often in the greater NY area as well as Maine Camp. For several years now he has been a judge at major annual Greek dance competitions.

Demetri is also a musician (playing several instruments) and will be accompanying Beth Bahia Cohen (violin) and Jim Stoyanoff (clarinet) to provide live music for the evening parties. All three are masters on their instruments and play regularly for Greek communities and international folk dance and music events around the country. Together, they will play a repertoire that will complement Demetri's dances, and will also play selections from beyond Greece, into the Balkans and the Middle East. They all understand the international folk dance scene and how to play for folk dancers.

The High/Scope Foundation is eliminating all of their programs at the camp and are shutting it down in July of this year. So this is the last High/Scope Dance Camp.

The High/Scope Conference Center is situated on 450 acres of beautiful rolling terrain in rural, southeastern Michigan. The Conference Center is a 30 minute drive from Ann Arbor, less than an hour from Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) and one hour north of Toledo. The camp features two country estates with mansions designed in the mid-1920s. Dances and workshops are held in the renovated recreation barn with a beautiful wood floor. The houses and barn are a short walk from each other.
